Whats In Your Carry On?
Whether you're travelling a short or long distance it can be exhausting! It doesn't matter whether I travel alone or with my kids - organisation is key! I am currently travelling from London to the United States for some training with the Institute of Functional Medicine. I am trying to organise my carry on and any snacks I may need. I find especially challenging because I am gluten free. I have been for years now and good planning can be a life saver. Hope this helps you.
In my carry on:
Gluten free oat cakes - great base for anything you want to eat. I carry almond butter sachets with me which are perfect for about 3 oat cakes. You can buy the oat cakes wrapped individually which is great for travelling.
Almond Butter Sachets - used above on oat cakes but I also have it with a banana and straight out the pack sometimes. Its full of protein and fat and so is indispensable.
Electrolytes - The environment in a plane is very drying for your skin and body. Drinking lots and lots of water is key. I empty out a sachet of electrolytes into my water. My sachet also contains Vitamin C which is an antioxidant supporting your immune system and helping fight off all the germs in the cabin. Your confined to such a small space with so many people that it's easy to catch something. This is a great addition to help stop you getting sick!
Life Factory Bottle - I honestly don't leave home without it. Its great when travelling too as I will have it filled several times with hot water and can dunk one of my herbal teas into it. I also have a tendency to get cold on the flight that I can hold onto my bottle and it keeps me warm. If I need to get up I can screw the lid closed and put it away for a while with no worries of spilling. Herbal teas count towards keeping you hydrated so its a easy way to keep drinking too. The airplane cups really small and you won't get enough liquid in with them.
TeaBag - I don't drink caffeinated tea so carry a stash of roobois and other herbal teas with me.
Nut - Fuelling, filling and a blood sugar balancing snack! You get tired enough from travelling that you don't need your blood sugar wrecking havoc because you haven't been eating properly. I've got a pack of mixed nuts here and a pack of cashews. My son has a cashew allergy so I don't bring anything cashew in the house - I'm indulging now as its a rare opportunity without him that I get to munch on some.
Chocolate - for that moment you need it! Full of flavonoids and antioxidants - nothing wrong with a bar of chocolate as long as it's at least 70% dark and really no more than 30-40grams. That's about the size of a small Green & Blacks.
Greens Powder - with protein, probiotics and antioxidants. This is my meal in a sachet that just needs to be added into water should I need it - in an emergency...
Little Extras:
Lavender Essential oil - great for any headaches you may get. Just rub a few drops on the points you need it. Its also great for relaxing and uplifting.
Ren Anti-Pollution Spray - I actually spray this on my face an hands periodically. I got a complimentary bottle of this from Tri-Yoga recently and really like it. Otherwise I carry a small bottle of colloidal Silver and spray it on me now and then. Silver is an antibacterial and will kill anything lurking around, again, helping you prevent catching anything from the cabin.
A good book - I am usually way to optimistic of how much I will read and bring too much to read. My logic is - better to have it than be bored without it.
Scarf/ pashmina - I have had this one for about 15 years - I kid you not! but I love it and always travel with it because its warm and if I curl up it covers me completely.
